Symptoms
Patients with cervical spondylitis usually describe:
- Neck stiffness on waking that eases with gentle movement
- Pain or a grating sound when turning the neck
- Ache spreading to the shoulder, between the shoulder blades, or down the arm
- Tingling, numbness or weakness in the hand and fingers
- Pain that worsens after long periods bent over work or a phone
- Occasional giddiness or heaviness at the back of the head
If grip strength is steadily weakening, walking becomes unsteady, or bladder or bowel control is affected, these are serious signs — see a neurosurgeon promptly.
How treatment works at Arogyam
The first sitting reviews the character and duration of the pain, your work and sitting posture, and any X-ray or MRI report you have. A treatment plan follows from that.
Acupuncture and electro-acupuncture
Fine needles are placed at selected points in the neck, shoulder and arm. As tight muscles release, the pain and the radiating ache ease. In long-standing cases a very mild electrical current is added through the needles.
Yoga therapy
Jerky or full-circle neck rotations usually make matters worse. Instead we teach isometric holds, postures that support the shoulder girdle, and pranayama — with a 10–15 minute plan to follow at home.
Posture and daily routine
Pillow height, screen and phone position, and a short break every hour: without correcting these three, the pain keeps returning. The consultation covers them in detail.
Nutrition
Reducing inflammatory foods and checking calcium and vitamin-D status — advised in line with M.Sc (Food & Nutrition) training.
